Food

Haven't been doing much painting for the last year. I had no idea that once my daughter was in school, that I would be volunteering so much. I love it, don't get me wrong but it does take time away from other things. Once she finished her Kindergarten we spring right into summer doing lot and lots of awesome things together as a family.  We planted a killer crop of banana peppers, per the request of my hubby.  We were able to can almost weekly (which was great practice). I also canned tomato sauce and figs.

Cupcakes, my new obsession! I don't cake or pie, but these little guy...ohhhh my! Jeff & Veda surprised me with a special treat for my 40th bday!

Thinking about art....have a goal to get out into the studio again soon. I spent most of the early fall painting the outside of the carriage house. Now it's time to start the creative process again.  Thinking about doing a PodCast...

Cheers for now!

Certain Curtains

This week in the studio I didn't paint but I did finish a project that I started back in September. Curtains!!!! I love fabric. I'm not very gifted at sewing, but have been able to make most of the curtains in our house (saves big bucks). Anyways I bought this amazing fabric that took me forever to find for curtains in Jeff and my bedroom. Our bedroom wall color is dreamcatcher green (Benjamin Moore #2b 640) It's difficult to find fun & funky fabrics that are reasonably priced....so I bought and temporarily hung this fabric and it was Way Cool!
In true Vanessa style-I just sewed them this week (how many months later)! Now I don't need to worry about being stabbed with a pin when I pull the curtains to the side to look out the window. Here are some fun pictures of my evening!

Cheers!

Love to the Dad 2012

Love Day-It is a tradition in our family to make something from the heart for each other on Valentines Day instead of buying things. This year Veda wanted to paint a wooden heart. She picked out all the paint colors. Then we came home and she painted the heart. I played around with the left-over paint on watercolor paper. Together we made an amazing piece of art-but wait-it doesn't end-

Since Veda showed her dad the project before Valentines, she wanted to do something else to the piece. I glued our two pieces together and then mounted it onto black board. Then we used oil pastels to doodle around the painting....love this piece! It's now framed and in our living room! So glad my daughter helps me be more creative!

Cheers!

Metallic Heart

Yesterday I dropped off the completed project to Ann Marie Bolen at the American Heart Assoc. here in Lancaster. Here are the details on this painting

Painted as a submission for the "Go Red for Women" annual event. If I win, my painting will be sold in an auction the day of the even. If I do not, the painting will be available for sale...value to be determined later.Wish me Luck!!!!

Title: Metallic Heart
Style: Abstract
Medium:Acrylic on Canvas Paper
Painting is currently unframed

Thoughts on painting:
"Team Go Red" theme for the event-ideas flooded with thoughts of sports, workouts, practices, perseverance, discipline. The textured hearts represent the unspoken color of red. I selected the metallic gold, silver, and bronze colors to show team spirit of winning like at the Olympics, being fit and working to be your best.

Cheers

Heart Assoc. Go Red for Women Project

A few weeks ago, I was asked to submit a painting for the Heart Assoc., Go Red for Women fundraiser event. If my painting is selected, it will be auctioned off at the event and I believe they will be using the painting on note cards. Very cool opportunity and great organization! Thanks to Kelly Trach for thinking of me!

I'm working on the texture of the background, which is the all white picture. Once that is dry, I'll start to paint. I'll probably do several paintings and then try and select the best one for the event. Any painting I do not use will be available for sale.

Yesterday was a family day in the studio which I cherish. Hubby working on hubby projects, Veda and me painting, and Wiley warming up by the heater! I love that my little girl loves to paint just like her mommy. She even started to work on her own heart for the event.

Here are some fun pictures.
